Donnington 2004 Review

Trish and I went today and got there just as it was opening - or so we thought!

We got the usual "that is not a kit car" comment as we arrived at the junction for free kit car entry. None of the stewards knew what was going on or where to park, the latter being a complete shambles with only Westfield, Dutton and one other having a reserved parking space. What limited kit car parking space was available had long since been filled so we ended up parking at the exhibition end of the public car park before the stewards caught up with us. The vendors were complaining that there was no dedicated parking for them and that they were having to park in the public car park as well. Ironically this was useful to us as we only had to carry the rear seat for our Beauford a few metres!

The actual show was average to below mediocre with not all of the manufacturers exhibiting. We went for the specific purpose of buying bits and succeeded in this although the vendors were commenting that there were so few exhibitors and vendors this year, mostly because there was another exhibition on at the same time to which most of the missing companies appeared to have gone.

Trips round the circuit cost £15.

Camping overnight was available but on a steeper hill than at Quantum

Harrogate Show - a small but lively contingent of members attended the Show, 14-15 Aug, which is set in one of the country's most scenic showgrounds, it really does deserve more support. Having said that there was quite a good turn out from both the kit car and the component side of the industry. Our members came from all points of the compass from places as far away as Gretna Green and Bristol and as far apart as Blackpool and Scarborough. It was good to see old friends and new members there.

Talking point - One of the exhibitors was a fabricator of aluminium fuel tanks and swirl pots. He had quite an array of stock models for various applications and seemed quite keen when I suggested that several of our members might be in the market for a replacement tank for fuel injected cars. Prices on his stand ranged from stand alone swirlpots at £80 to tanks with built in swirl pots at about £110. He even has the capacity to produce racing tanks with built in synthetic rubber cells to minimise the risk of explosions and to act instead of interior baffles.
Naturally to quote for a tank suitable for us the fabricator will need a detailed drawing. Such a drawing is being sought at present with a view to getting a quote for a batch of tanks. Any members who want to keep up to date with this initiative - with a view to ordering a tank if the price is right, please contact the QOC Secretary Michael Hughes

The Quantum Owners Club is the first kit car club to be featured in the new Total Kit Car magazine that has been born out of the hugely successful web site Total Kit Car. A full 2 pages is devoted to the club and reflects on the first 15 years of the Quantum Owners Club and the many achivements of individual owners and the club as a whole.

HOT NEWS - The Quantum Owners Club have come in as runners-up in the Land's End John O'Groast Club annual awards in category D (By 4 or more wheels - motorised). This is in relation to our End to End run in under 24 hours on the 26th to 27th June 2003. The club successfully had 11 cars and 22 drivers drive from John O'Groats to Land's End in approximately 22 hours, without any major problems. This is the first time the club has organised anything on this scale and to top it off over £10,000 was raised for the NCH charity. Well done to everyone who participated in and organised this excellent event.
